First-time nominee Megan Thee Stallion had a lot to celebrate on Tuesday (Nov. 24) when the 2021 Grammy nominations were announced. It was a major day for the Hot Girl rapper, who earned noms for record of the year, best rap performance and best rap song for her hit “Savage,” as well as a bid in the coveted best new artist category, where she’ll face off against Ingrid Andress, Phoebe Bridgers, Chika, Noah Cyrus, D Smoke, Doja Cat and Kaytranada.
Meg’s reaction? Six crying emoji.
“Being nominated for a Grammy is something I’ve always dreamed about and it really is a true honor,” she also said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for all the love, support and recognition I have received over the last few months and as well as The Academy, more than anything I would like to thank my Hotties, who have helped make any of this possible. I love you all. “
Fellow rapper Freddie Gibbs took the opportunity to say “I told you so,” in his own way, when Alfredo, his collab album with the Alchemist was nominated for best rap album.
Meanwhile, Dua Lipa, who read out some of the nominations, was dumbstruck when informed during the Grammys livestream announcement that she’d received several nods, including best pop solo performance, record of the year and song of the year for “Don’t Start Now,” best pop duo/group performance for “Un Dia (One Day)” with J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Tainy, best pop vocal album and album of the year for Future Nostalgia.
“You’re joking,” she said, pulling her hands to her face incredulously.
BTS also took to social media to share an excellent video of them hooting and hollering over their nom for best pop duo/group performance (“Dynamite”).
