Morgan Wallen made his Saturday Night Live debut on Dec. 5, roughly two months after being replaced as the musical guest for breaking the show’s strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
During Saturday’s episode, the country music star poked fun at himself by appearing in a sketch that spoofed the October night he was caught on video partying without a mask or practicing social distancing at a University of Alabama football game.
In the skit, Wallen is visited by versions of himself one month into the future (played by host Jason Bateman) and two months into the future (SNL’s Bowen Yang), who try to warn the singer about the consequences of his partying.
“I am you from the future and I came here to stop you from partying tonight,” Bateman’s character said. “Trust me somebody’s gonna post a video of you ignoring COVID protocols, the whole internet’s gonna freak out … Once people hear about the party, you’re in big trouble man, you’re gonna get kicked off Saturday Night Live.”
The hilarious sketch ends with Wallen realizing his mistakes and writing a song about it on the spot, titled “Focus on the Future.” Watch it below.
In addition to appearing in the spoof, Wallen also served as the evening’s musical guest, performing his hit songs “7 Summers” and “Still Going Down.” The tracks are from his upcoming double album, Dangerous, scheduled for release on Jan. 8, 2021.
Earlier this month, Wallen became the first artist to debut two titles in the top 10 simultaneously on Billboard’s airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Country Songs chart. “Somebody’s Problem” launched at No. 3 and “Still Goin Down” bound in at No. 8 on the Dec. 5-dated list.
