‘Tis the season to make your year-end lists, check them twice and then make fun of what’s on everyone else’s lists.
Except if that rundown comes from Billie Eilish, who shared her favorite tracks of 2020 with Australia’s Triple J as part of their annual countdown, The Hottest 100, which is voted on by the listening public.
At the very top of Eilish’s list was the meditative “At the Door” from The Strokes’ The New Abnormal. “I wish I could put this whole album as my first choice; it’s been my favorite album in many years,” Eilish told Triple J about the There is something about New York rockers’ first album in seven years. “I don’t know what it is, man. I love ‘At The Door’, I love the melodies, I love the lyrics, I love everything about it. The Strokes hit a nerve.”
The rest of Billie’s list is, not surprisingly, pretty eclectic and often inward-looking. Coming in behind the Strokes was James Blake’s fragile ballad “Are You Even Real?,” Phoebe Bridgers’ fragile “Savior Complex,” Cyn’s beat-driven “Drinks,” Drake’s intimate “Time Flies,” Dominic Fike’s bouncy “Chicken Tenders” and Bruno Major’s hushed “To Let a Good Thing Die.”
Also making the list are Nigerian singer Tekno’s shuffling “Kata” and Jorja Smith’s chilled-out “By Any Means.”
