Kelly Clarkson is having a ’90s marathon over at her daytime talk show, and she powered through on Tuesday (Dec. 8) with a Joan Osborne cover of “One of Us.”
Sitting on a stool next to the piano, the Grammy-winning singer wondered aloud in the chorus, “What if God was one of us?/ Just a slob like one of us/ Just a stranger on the bus, trying to make his way home/ Just trying to make his way home, just like a holy rolling stone?/ Back up to heaven all alone, just trying to make his way home.”
Osborne sent her love in the form of a heart emoji on The Kelly Clarkson Show’s Twitter following the performance. “One of Us” is the singer-songwriter’s only Billboard Hot 100 hit, which reached all the way to No. 4 in 1996. The song, which was penned by Eric Bazilian of The Hooters, earned two Grammy nominations that year for record of the year and best female pop vocal performance.
Clarkson and her band Y’all traveled back to the ’90s earlier this week with her cover of Vertical Horizon’s “Everything You Want,” which was originally released in 1999.
