Fans think My Chemical Romance are teasing a possible makeup line with a new Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge-themed video posted on their socials.
The group — who announced their reunion last year but had to postpone the anticipated tour until next year due to the raging COVID-19 pandemic — dropped an enigmatic, raging clip on Dec. 8 featuring an image of a burning white rose set to the strains of the rampaging Three Cheers track “Give ‘Em Hell Kid.”
The teaser says only “Eyes,” with no additional details on what it is referring to, but the band’s always dialed-in fans realized that the same clip was also posted by makeup company HipDot, which wrote, “Here’s a hint… COMING SOON.” And then on Wednesday morning (Dec. 9) HipDot spilled the beans on the HipDot x My Chemical Romance collection.
“Limited edition collection launching Dec. 10th on hipdot.com,” it read, with the tantalizing addition, “We have a surprise coming for those who purchase within the first 72hrs… taking guesses!” At press time HipDot had not yet added any MCR merch to its online store and the extent of the collaboration was still a mystery.
It’s worth noting that another Three Cheers song, “Bury Me In Black,” features makeup specific references to making yourself ugly/pretty in the lines “Just give us war-worn lipstick/ By the purifying flame … Shot lip gloss through my veins.”
