The juggernaut that is AC/DC’s Power Up rumbles on in Australia, where the album logs a fourth successive week at No. 1 to hold off Shawn Mendes’ fast-starting fourth album.
AC/DC’s Power Up is one of only two titles in 2020 to log more than three weeks at the ARIA Albums Chart summit. The other, Taylor Swift’s folklore, also ruled for four weeks.
Thanks to a full-charged AC/DC, Mendes has to make do with a No. 2 debut for his Billboard 200 leader Wonder. It the followup to the Canadian singer’s self-titled third album, which ruled the ARIA chart in May 2018.
Also this week, Swift folklore vaults 5-3, thanks to the debut of her Disney Plus special and the rollout of its vinyl version, which sees the isolation recording rule the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
British indie heroes Arctic Monkeys bow at No. 4 with Live At The Royal Albert Hall, the followup to their chart-topping 2018 studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The live compilation becomes the Sheffield band’s seventh top five ARIA album, including all six of their studio albums.
Rounding out the Top 5 is Miley Cyrus’ Plastic Hearts, down 3-5, while Yungblud’s U.K. No. 1 Weird! starts at No. 6 in the land Down Under.
Michael Buble spreads festive cheer on the ARIA Albums Chart with Christmas, up 14-7. It leads a list of holiday-themed albums climbing the chart, including Delta Goodrem’s Only Santa Knows (up 13-12), Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas (20-14), Human Nature’s The Christmas Album (31-22), Robbie Williams’ The Christmas Present (50-31) and John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John’s Friends For Christmas (43-32), while Dolly Parton’s A Holly Dolly Christmas opens at No. 37.
On the ARIA Singles Chart, 24kGoldn’s “Mood” featuring Iann Dior rules the national singles survey for a ninth week.
In the U.K., Mariah Carey makes history as “All I Want For Christmas Is You” climbs to No. 1 for the first time in 26 years. With just one week until the Christmas chart is published, it’s still climbing in Australia, up 16-4 on the latest survey.
Also this week, homegrown artists The Kid LAROI and Tones And I make notable chart impacts.
The Kid LAROI bags his second Top 10 in Australia as “Without You” starts at No. 9, the week’s highest debut, while Tones’ “Fly Away” lifts 19-12, a new peak.
