Who says Kellyoke has to be a cover? Kelly Clarkson opened up her The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday (Dec. 14) not with her take on someone else’s song — but one of her own tunes.
The singer, dressed in a cozy long cardigan perfect for the chilly weather, sang her 2013 Christmas carol “Underneath the Tree” on a stage decked out with a gorgeous snowy and lit tree, garlands, and silver tinsel behind her. She had a few backup performers on the set with her — socially distanced, of course — while eight appeared on giant screens.
“Presents, what a beautiful sight/ Don’t mean a thing if you ain’t holding me tight/ You’re all that I need/ Underneath the tree,” she belted out joyfully.
The holiday jingle is from Clarkson’s first Christmas album, 2013’s Wrapped in Red.
The Grammy-winning singer closed out the prior week by also performing a Christmas song for Kellyoke Dec. 11. For that episode, she took on the classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Clarkson also offered up something new Friday when her collaboration with Brett Eldredge, “Under the Mistletoe,” was released. The song is an original, and also came along with a super cute animated video featuring the two performers, pets, and even a grandpa locked in a bathroom.
