Lizzo leads her body-normative movement with a new video that dispels society’s self-loathing manners regarding one’s body and promotes self-love even when it’s not easy.
The 32-year-old Grammy-winning singer posted a montage reel of revealing clips on Tuesday (Dec. 15), where she proudly showed off her body around her house, from glowing in the sunlight to glistening in the shower.
“Your body is perfectly yours, even if it ain’t perfect to anybody else,” she began narrating the clip over soothing flute music. “If you only knew the complexities your body possesses, you would be so proud of it. I’m so proud of you for making it this far in a society that gives us a head-start into self-loathing, that hands us a dysmorphic mirror and leaves us desperate to catch up with who we think we should be. I’ve spent so much time in this body and I am no different than you — still struggling to find balance, still trying to mend my relationship with food, my anxiety, my back fat. It gets easier. I’ve spent my hardest days trying to love me.”
She later advised her followers to regularly eat, drink, move and rest as a normal person, concluding, “Regardless of what I or what any so-called expert says, you love you. And I hope you remember that.” Critics recently accused her of promoting “diet culture” after she posted a TikTok video about her 10-day juice detox journey, but the “Juice” artist explained how her results had nothing to do with losing a lot of weight and everything to do with bettering her body, mind and spirit.
“In reality, November stressed me the f— out,” Lizzo discussed in a follow-up TikTok video. “I drank a lot, I ate a lot of spicy things and things that f—ed my stomach up. I wanted to reverse it and get back to where I was. I’m so proud of myself. I’m proud of my results. My sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f—ing body, my f—ing skin, the whites of my eyes, I feel and look like a bad b— — and that’s it.”
