As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis offered an update from the hospital on Wednesday (Dec. 16) after suffering burns on 25% of his body in a bonfire accident.
“Keep your head up no matter what! I’m doing the best I can to make a thumps up on my way to surgery (in about 30 minutes),” wrote Lambesis in an Instagram post, in which he’s smiling from his hospital bed and lifting up his left arm, which is heavily wrapped in gauze, along with his left leg and right arm.
Lambesis said he’s been laid up since Saturday (Dec. 12), when his attempt to pour a little gasoline on a fire went sideways and he ended up getting burned by the fireball. “The entire gas cap fell off when trying to use a little from the trickle tip to get a bonfire started. Gas got all over my clothes and I ended up burning 25% of my body,” he wrote.
“I’ve been in the hospital since Saturday night, and I will be here for a couple more weeks most likely,” he added. “Today’s surgery is to remove the remaining dead skin that we were unable to scrub off during dressing changes this week. It will be for the best so that we won’t have to scrub so hard during dressing changes, and that is a big relief for me. I am extremely thankful for the Burns center workers who are taking care of me.”
Lambesis promised to updated friends and fans on his recovery, which he said will likely be a long road.
The band announced last month that they were forced to cancel their planned Burn to Emerge tour slated to kick off in February 2021 with Whitechapel and Shadow of Intent due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
