Sir Paul McCartney has another hit album on his hands, as far as fans are concerned. The legendary Beatles’ latest release, McCartney III, has topped the week’s new music poll.
Fans voted in a poll published on Billboard on Friday (Dec. 18), selecting the 78-year-old’s 18th studio album, which he self-produced while in isolation during the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, as their favorite new release in the past week. The new offering snagged nearly 60% of the vote, triumphing over Eminem’s surprise album drop, Music to Be Murdered By (Side B).
The rapper’s 11th studio album — and his second surprise release of the year, following January’s Music to Be Murdered By — came in at No. 2 with a respectable 36.68% of the votes.
McCartney, speaking about his latest musical offering, said in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning Dec. 20 that he quite enjoyed working on his own. “It’s not like working with the band, because I know what I want to hear, and I don’t even have to tell anyone,” he shared. “I just said, ‘Let’s do some drums.’ I’ll sit on the drums and I’ll think, ‘OK, I wanted doo doo doo … doo doo dah.’ So, it’s all in my head.”
