San Diego-based Duckfoot Brewery Co teamed up with the Zappa Trust to create a new tribute beer, hilariously named Why Does It Hurt When IPA?
The name, of course, is a play on the late Frank Zappa’s 1979 Joe’s Garage track, “Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?” The beer is launched on Monday (Dec. 21) in honor of the star’s birthday.
The West Coast-style IPA, brewed with Zappa hops, Simcoe and Cascade, has notes of passion fruit, spice and the rocker’s favorite, grapefruit. The can itself features never-before-published photos of Frank.
Duckfoot co-founder, Matt DelVecchio, a Zappa fan from childhood, is a longtime friend of Zappa Plays Zappa touring musician Pete Griffin, who made the intro to the family and launched the beer-making process.
“Our new friends (but they feel like old friends) at Duck Foot Brewing Co are making a delicious new brew using the Zappa hop,” Ahmet Zappa said in a press statement. “Stay home, be safe and enjoy Why Does It Hurt When IPA? responsibly. All the Zappa Trust proceeds from this batch will go to support the music community in need. Music is the Best!”
“We are so beyond thrilled to be making a beer for one of our favorite musicians of all time,” Delvecchio added.
You can now order Why Does It Hurt When IPA? by visiting ZappaBrew.com. The beer is only in the United States as a six-pack, at $4.99 per beer, plus a flat rate of $25 shipping. There is a limit of two six-packs per customer.
