Bee Gees bound on Billboard’s dance/electronic charts (dated Dec. 26) following the Saturday, Dec. 12, premiere of the HBO documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
On the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, the iconic Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, which contains Bee Gees disco classics among other tracks, returns at No. 11, earning 3,000 equivalent album units, up 106%, in the week ending Dec. 17, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
Previously, the soundtrack ranked as high as No. 4 in May 2017, shortly after the chart converted to a consumption-based model and began including catalog titles for the first time. (Top Dance/Electronic Albums began in 2001, then based strictly on album sales of current titles.) Fever topped the all-genre Billboard 200 for 24 weeks in 1978.
On the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs survey (which commenced in 2013), five Fever tracks make inaugural appearances, including Bee Gees’ first top 10 on the tally, “Stayin’ Alive” (No. 6), as well as fellow ’70s hits “More Than a Woman” (No. 15), “Night Fever” (No. 16), “You Should Be Dancing” (No. 20) and “Jive Talkin’ ” (No. 25).
“Stayin’,” which stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in 1978, starts at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart, sporting sales of over 2,000 downloads, up 299%. It’s the act’s first No. 1 on the list, which began in 2010. “Dancing” is next (No. 2, close to 2,000 downloads, up 574%), followed by “More” (No. 3, around 1,500 sold, up 446%), “Fever” (No. 4, over 1,000, up 443%) and “Talkin’ ” (No. 7, 1,000, up 694%).
On Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs, “Stayin’ ” surges 18-13, earning 2.3 U.S. streams, including 1.9 million on-demand streams, up 12%. On-demand streaming gains for other Fever tracks include those for “More” (791,000, up 21%), “Fever” (710,000, up 24%), “Dancing” (402,000, up 45%) and “Talkin’ ” (258,000, up 94%).
McRAE’s ‘FIRST’ No. 1: On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Tate McRae motors 4-1 with “You Broke Me First.” Her maiden entry on the chart has been aided by radio-ready remixes from Luca Schreiner and Gryffin. The track, which also rises 22-20 on the mainstream top 40-based Pop Songs chart with a 15% increase in plays, is drawing core-dance spins at KMVQ-HD2 San Francisco, Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel and WCPY Chicago, among other outlets. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on nearly 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)
Additionally on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Meduza marches to its third top 10, and Dermot Kennedy collects his first with their collab “Paradise” (11-8).
Plus, Ariana Grande parades to her 14th Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10 with “Positions” (13-10). Among female acts, only Rihanna (24) and Katy Perry (15) have more top 10s dating to the chart’s 2003 inaugural. David Guetta leads all acts with 27.
