Beyoncé‘s BeyGOOD foundation announced on Tuesday (Dec. 22) that it will award $5,000 grants to families and individuals who are facing eviction or foreclosure as the eviction moratorium is slated to end at later this month.
“When we were faced with the pandemic caused by COVID-19, BeyGOOD created a plan to make a difference. We assisted organizations across the country that were providing people with basic needs like food, water, household supplies and COVID testing. We also provided mental health support,” read a statement from the singer’s charitable organization.
The note said that since launching the BeyGOOD Small Business Impact fund, more than 250 small businesses have received $10,000 grants to date. “Beyoncé is continuing her heart of support and helping where needed most. Phase Two of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those impacted by the housing crisis,” the statement continued. “The housing moratorium is set to end on December 26th, resulting in mortgage foreclosures and rental evictions. Many families are impacted, due to the pandemic that resulted in job loss, sickness and overall economy downturn.”
So, because it’s the holiday season and many people are stressed out about how they’re going to handle paying their rent or mortgage, BeyGOOD is offering $5,000 grants to those facing eviction or foreclosure. The necessary paperwork must be submitted to the NAACP, with the online application process opening on Jan. 7, 2021, at which point 100 recipients will be selected for grants to be disbursed later in the month. The second round is slated to open in February.
The note did not specify how many grants will be given, but it did say that the December recipients of the Small Business Impact Fund grants will be announced next week.
