It’s that time of year to tell your loved ones how much you care. Sam Smith and Celine Dion can already tick-off those boxes.
In a video posted by Pitchfork, Smith breaks down their favorite vocal performances. Dion’s 1996 power ballad “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is right at the top of the list.
“As I song, I think it’s outrageous. It’s so dramatic,” Smith remarks. “The vocal performance is out of this world.”
Soon after the clip went up, Dion reached out. “Aww, thank you so much Sam Smith. It was great to see you last year in London, and forget about me – I think you’re so amazing!! Take care … hope to see you again soon,” she wrote, from one great singer to another.
Smith and Dion have been members of the mutual appreciation society for several years. In July 2019, the multiple Grammy Award winners professed their admiration for one another on social media. “Celine Dion changed my life,” Smith tweeted at the time.
Both artists are wrapping big years in music, which would’ve been bigger still if COVID-19 didn’t mess with everyone’s travel and touring plans.
Dion bagged the year’s No. 2 Top Tour, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. The Courage World Tour is 2020’s top pop tour, grossing $84.6 million and 498,000 tickets sold.
Meanwhile, Smith’s third studio album Love Goes peaked at No. 2 in the U.K. and No. 5 in the U.S following its Oct. 30 release.
