President-elect Joe Biden and soon-to-be first lady Jill Biden will spend their New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest and the gang. ABC and dick clark productions announced on Wednesday (Dec. 30) that the Bidens will give their final 2020 interview during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021 on Thursday night (Dec. 31) during the annual countdown show.
The future first couple will speak exclusively to host Seacrest during the broadcast that kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, bringing a “special message of hope, unity and best wishes” for the new year. “In a year marked with many challenges, we are honored that President-Elect Joe Biden and Dr. Biden will join America’s most-watched tradition – Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – to share an inspiring message as we come together to close out 2020 and look ahead with hope to 2021,” said Amy Thurlow, President, dick clark productions and Craig Erwich, president, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment in a statement.
The 49th annual Rockin’ Eve will be hosted by Seacrest with help from Lucy Hale and Billy Porter in New York’s Times Square, as well as Ciara in Los Angeles and Big Freedia in New Orleans, with Jennifer Lopez headlining before the ball drop in New York, as well as performances by Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmie Allen, Machine Gun Kelly, Brandy, Doja Cat, Ella Mai, En Vogue, Julia Michaels & JP Saxe, Lewis Capaldi, Maluma, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, Nelly, Saweetie and PJ Morton.
This year’s Rockin’ Eve will, of course, be different than previous editions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time in its nearly 50-year history, the broadcast will be closed to the public due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2021 is produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Entertainment, the parent company of Billboard.
