Eleven thousand, seven hundred and eighty votes. How do you measure? Measure an election?
That’s what the Gregory Brothers set to find out, when they turned President Donald Trump’s attempt to gain more votes in Georgia into a Rent musical number.
It all started over the weekend, when The Washington Post obtained a recording of an hour-long phone call Trump had with Brad Raffensperger, in which he pressured the Georgia secretary of state to “find” 11,780 votes in an attempt to swing the state red two months after President-elect Joe Biden secured victory.
“The people of Georgia are angry — the people in the country are angry,” the president said. “And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”
“Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong,” Raffensperger replied, dismissing Trump’s claims of voter fraud.
The Gregory Brothers took Trump’s next statement on Sunday (Jan. 3) and overlaid the instrumental from the Rent classic “Seasons of Love.”
“All I want to do is this,” he said as the piano melody begins. “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have.”
“But have they moved the inner parts of the machines and replaced them with other parts?” Trump continues to sing in the hilarious musical take on the phone call.
“Trump asks to overturn democracy, but it’s Rent,” the masterpiece is titled. Listen below.
