We saw a lot of Justin Bieber in the video for his new single “Anyone,” in which the singer portrays a power-punching (often shirtless) boxer training for the big fight while sharing tender moments with his No. 1 fan (actress Zoey Deutch).
Diving behind the scenes of the Colin Tilley-directed video, Bieber dropped the “Montage” version of the clip on Monday (Jan. 4), in which we get an up-close-and-personal, shirtless, look at what it took to cover up his many tattoos.
The visual opens with Bieber teasing Tilley about his horrible singing voice and then dives right into a shirtless JB sitting in a chair as two makeup artists airbrush away any sign of his body art. At one point, we catch a glimpse of the singer in only his Calvin briefs as a time lapse sequence of the painstaking work unfolds under the ballad’s dulcet tones.
The action then turns to the beach, where Justin shadowboxes in the surf and shares some off-camera laughs with Deutch. Wife Hailey is on set, of course, laughing behind the scenes as Justin makes eyes at her between takes and helps to apply his hand wraps after a make-up technician dabs just the right amount of bruising around his eyes.
Other outtakes find Deutch playfully punching Bieber’s abs, Deutch greeting the couple’s dog and the crew celebrating the end of a long shoot. All that training appears to have left Bieber a bit punchy, as he once again joked about wanting to get into the ring with Tom Cruise for a celebrity boxing match over the weekend.
“Tom Cruise is toast,” Bieber captioned a recent Instagram image. The callback reminded everyone that back in June 2019 the “Holy” singer inexplicably challenged the Top Gun: Maverick star known for doing his own insane stunts to a “fight in the octagon.” (At press time, Cruise had still not responded to either offer.)
