Megan Thee Stallion appeared unconcerned that her frequent collaborator DaBaby has a new song coming with Tory Lanez, who pleaded not guilty in November to shooting Meg in the foot in a widely covered 2020 incident.
“Nice try,” Megan cryptically tweeted on Tuesday (Jan. 5).
A fan then replied to the tweet with, “f*ck dababy all 2021,” and Meg replied, “That s–t was old and not cleared” — seemingly responding to the news of the track. Sources with direct knowledge of the recording confirmed to Billboard that the song is “an old recording and not cleared for release.”
The comment came shortly after Tory posted a teaser for the song on Instagram, along with a picture of the two appearing to perform an exorcism on a woman in a blonde wig laying in a bed. “@dababy X TORY LANEZ ……… SONG + VISUALS ON THE WAY ….. #2021Umbrella ….drop a ☂️ in the comments if you ready for this !,” wrote Lanez.
Lanez also tweeted the cryptic comment, “Hurt people Hurt people… don’t let that go over your head,” on Tuesday.
Megan seemed so unconcerned, in fact, that she used the tweet to promote her upcoming video for “Cry Baby,” a track from her debut album, Good News, that features DaBaby, who previously appeared on the song “Cash S–t” from Meg’s 2019 Fever mixtape; Meg was also featured on DaBaby’s “Nasty” from last year’s Blame It on Baby album.
Lanez was charged with felony assault last year in connection with a July 12, 2020, incident in which he is accused of shooting Megan in the foot.
In November 2020, Megan provided the most detailed account to date of the shooting, describing how alleged assailant Lanez begged her to not tell police what happened and even offered her and her friend money for their silence; Lanez allegedly fired four shot from outside his car on the night of the incident, with two bullets hitting Megan’s feet.
Meg later unloaded on Lanez in the blistering Good News song “Shots Fired,” while Lanez, who’s been court ordered by a judge to stay away from the “WAP” rapper, appeared to deny shooting her in the song “I Ain’t Do It” and seemingly addressed the incident on his song “Money Over Fallouts” from September’s Daystar album.
Spokespeople for Lanez, DaBaby and Stallion had not returned requests for comment at press time.
