If 2021 isn’t quite going the way you’d imagined so far, then Kelly Clarkson has a song for you to listen to — or rather, a performance of LP’s phenomenal single “Lost on You” for her latest Kellyoke cover.
On Tuesday’s (Jan. 12) edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show’s popular cover series, Clarkson took to her dimly lit stage, dressed in a simple striped top with a pair of beige bib overalls, to deliver a soulful rendition of LP’s universally beloved single off of her 2016 album of the same name.
The inaugural American Idol winner chose not to imitate LP’s fascinating raspy vocals. Instead, Clarkson embraced her award-winning belt as she wailed through the tender, Western-twinged single, pining for a lost love that simply isn’t there anymore. “Let’s raise a glass or two/ To all the things I’ve lost on you,” she sang on the song’s chorus. “Just that you could cut me loose/ After everything I’ve lost on you/ Is that lost on you?”
Released in 2016, “Lost on You” has gone on to become LP’s biggest hit around the world, claiming No. 1 spots in more than a dozen different countries, while also helping her top Billboard’s Adult Top 40 Airplay, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Emerging Artists charts in September 2016. The song also handed a major assist to her 2016 album of the same name, which went on to top the Billboard 200.
Clarkson started off this week with a stunning rendition of Toni Braxton’s “Another Sad Love Song,” and kicked off 2021 with a few beloved covers, including Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow,” Selena Gomez’s “Rare” and even Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
