If President Joe Biden’s inauguration had a theme, it was unity. So what better song for the Celebrating America primetime special honoring Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris than Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard’s new anthem “Undivided”?
Co-written by Florida Georgia Line’s Hubbard last fall, and released as a single last week, the song makes a plea for an end to the divisiveness that has corroded our national discourse.
“When I was in quarantine with COVID-19, I got to take a good hard look at myself. Inspired by my faith in God to reunite our country, I wrote this song and I sent it to Tim,” said Hubbard.
“The song, a message of unity and faith, stirred my soul,” added McGraw.
Performing outdoors on the the banks of the Cumberland River with Nashville’s skyline lighting up in the background, the pair delivered an invigorating version of the loping tune, as they sang in perfect harmony, “I think it’s time to come together/ You and I can make a change/ Maybe we can make a difference/ Make the world a better place.”
The lyrics advise that we stop looking to the left or to the right and quit seeing everything as black or white, as we pray for a little intercession from God “until this country we love is undivided.”
The makeshift duo was the only country act on the bill, but earlier in the day, Garth Brooks delivered a stunning a cappella version of “Amazing Grace” following Biden’s swearing in.
