Katy Perry shut it down. There’s just no other way to describe how the singer helped tie a bright, shining red, white and blue bow on Wednesday night’s (Jan. 20) Celebrating America primetime inauguration special with a stirring, fireworks-laden performance of her signature 2010 hit “Firework.”
The singer soared as the skyline of Washington, D.C., was emblazoned with a 4th of July-worthy explosion of color during the affirming, 90-minute, all-star capper to a day that saw Biden sworn-in as the nation’s 46th president alongside history-making Vice President Kamala Harris. And Katy looked appropriately regal doing it, rocking an all-white evening gown with matching cape and beaded sleeves.
Perry celebrated afterwards by posting a series of elegant behind-the-scenes snaps in which she posed in front of floral-pattered wallpaper in her inauguration best, including a snap with fiancé actor Orlando Bloom, who looked dashing in a slim black suit with patriotic tie.
Even the emoji in her early Thursday morning (Jan. 21) tweet were on-brand, including an American flag, a heart and a dove carrying an olive branch, an apparent nod to the oversized golden brooch Lady Gaga rocked during her soaring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
