Kelly Clarkson has us caught between her cover and H.E.R.‘s original version of “Hard Place” after her Kellyoke performance Wednesday (Jan. 27).
Moody neon red and purple lights highlighted Clarkson’s soulful performance of the ultra-romantic ballad. “What if nothing ever will change?/ Oh, I’m caught between your love and a hard place/ Oh, I wish there was a right way/ I’m caught between your love and a hard place, oh,” the daytime talk show host belted out the chorus.
“Hard Place” was originally released on H.E.R.’s fifth EP I Used to Know Her: Part 2 in 2018. The song peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart in February 2019 and earned two 2019 Grammy nominations in the Big Four categories: record of the year and song of the year.
