The Killers dropped a surprise deluxe edition of their most recent album, Imploding the Mirage, on Friday (Jan. 29), which includes a new song and two live tracks.
The previously-unreleased “C’est La Vie” is a loose, piano-spiced rhythmic workout that features some of singer Brandon Flowers’ most straightforward, celebratory lyrics about how sometimes you’re up and sometimes, well, you’re down.
“There’s dignity in calloused hands/ The tools you have are not for sale/ Well, sometimes, you’re the hammer/ And sometimes, you’re the nail/ It’s not about how you get lost/ It’s what you do to find the trail,” he sings over a chugging, jangly rhythm and cowbells before dropping into a scatting chorus.
The expanded edition also includes the “Wasatch Style” live version of the album single “Caution” and a moving acoustic take of another radio track, “Blowback.” Fans recently voted Mirage their favorite rock album of 2020 in a poll and the good news is that there might be more where that came from. The band fueled rumors of a potential follow-up in late December when they shared a cryptic post that looked like an 11-song track listing for an upcoming album.
The mysterious post featured such potential song titles as “Pressure Machine,” “In Another Life,” “Sleepwalker” and “Runaway Horses.”
