Having trouble sleeping lately? Kelly Clarkson has the perfect late-night Kellyoke remedy with her Matchbox Twenty cover of “3AM” that she performed on Monday (April 5).
The talk-show host and her band Y’all delivered a powerful and courageous rendition of the hit. Clarkson screamed, but her voice wasn’t straining when she sang the chorus, “And he says, ‘Baby, when it’s 3AM I must be lonely’/ Well, heaven he says, ‘Baby, well, I can’t help/ But be scared of it all sometimes/ And the rain’s gonna wash away, I believe this.’”
“3AM” was released as the third single from Matchbox Twenty’s 1996 debut album Yourself or Someone Like You. The song topped Billboard’s Adult Pop Airplay chart for 10 weeks in 1998. “3AM” also went No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay and Heritage Rock tallies. Billboard also ranked it No. 3 on our Greatest of All Time Adult Alternative Songs chart, which was just updated in March.
