Taylor Swift gives an intimate look into her childhood in the lyric video for the re-released “The Best Day (Taylor’s Version),” uploaded on April 9.
With rare clips of her family — including Swift’s mom Andrea, dad Scott and brother Austin — the new visual references the original 2009 music video, as it also plays home videos from the Swift family collection.
In the new video, Swifties get a glimpse of Taylor’s pre-pop star life. The visual opens with a sepia-toned picture of Swift’s mom Andrea and a toddler-aged Taylor Swift sitting on the grass, and continues with footage of the Swift family growing up in the 90’s and into the early 2000’s.
In one cute scene, a young Taylor and her little brother Austin are dancing with their mom beneath fireworks. As the superstar’s frequent companion on the red carpet and awards shows, Andrea Swift is prominently featured in the video further showing how close the mother-daughter duo are behind-the-scenes.
In her quest to gain back ownership of her music by re-recording her old albums, Taylor Swift swift kicked off the endeavor with the re-release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which originally came out in 2008. As an added bonus, Swift accompanies the album with previously unreleased tracks, such as fan favorites like “Today Was a Fairytale (Taylor’s Version)” and the lesser known “Don’t You (Taylor’s Version).”
“The Best Day” is only one of the songs written about her family. Off of her 2019 album Lover, Swift released the emotional ballad “Soon You’ll Get Better” ft. The Chicks reportedly inspired by her mom’s battle with cancer.
