The Knockouts are in full swing on NBC’s The Voice, and the quality of contestants on show are creating headaches for the coaches.
Kelly Clarkson found that out the hard way on Monday night (April 19), when Corey Ward performed her very own song “Already Gone,” from 2009, against Ryleigh Modig, who covered Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” from 2008.
When he wrapped up, Ward earned a standing ovation from John Legend, who bellowed “beautiful,” while Clarkson could be heard remarking, “he killed my song, that’s fine.”
Ryleigh also killed it. “You have a special way of making us feel your presence as an artist,” Legend said afterwards. “What a way to kick off a knockout,” enthused Nick Jonas.
In a show of hands, Blake Shelton and Legend both would have gone with Ward, while Jonas abstained.
“I’m stressed,” Kelly admitted as she prepared to announce her decision. Ultimately, she chose Corey, who, she admitted, came out “singing my song better than me.”
