It’s purely about the art! At least that’s what Cher is insisting when it comes to her appreciation for Law & Order: Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni.
The iconic singer recently tweeted about her appreciation for the actor’s on-screen skills, and during her Wednesday (April 21) appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, the comedian asked for more details.
“I think I’d seen his new show, and I like that show. I think it’s an excellent show and underrated,” Cher said, explaining that her tweet came after she watched an episode of the latest in the Law & Order franchise. “The acting is really good, and I thought he added something to the show — to SVU — that kind of left. And so when I saw him on this show, I thought, ‘Well, good on you, and you’re good and I’m glad you’re back doing a show.’”
Meloni, who previously starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit before unexpectedly leaving after 12 seasons in 2011, returned to reprise his role of the rage-filled Det. Elliot Stabler in the new spinoff, which also stars Dylan McDermott as big bad Richard Wheatley. The show premiered April 1.
Though the singer was pretty clear in why she likes Meloni, Corden didn’t buy that it was purely for the man’s acting skills. “You’re not saying it because he’s your type or anything?” he pressed. “Just saying — he’s a dish!”
But Cher was having none of it. “Just because someone is an excellent actor doesn’t mean you want to jump on their bones and roll them around on the carpet,” she insisted.
Still not convinced, Corden pointed out, “Sounds like you’ve really thought about this. No one here mentioned carpets, ever! You mentioned jumping on him, and I just said, ‘Is he your type’!”
“No!” Cher asserted once more. “Not even for a minute!”
It’s not hard to understand why Corden wasn’t totally convinced that Cher perhaps also admired Meloni’s physical attributes. Her tweet came during a week when Meloni was trending on Twitter. While filming in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood earlier in April, a fan had snapped a photo of his curvaceous behind. The image quickly went viral, with Meloni getting in on the fun by answering fans’ questions about his backside.
Cher has been making the late-night rounds lately to promote her new documentary, Cher & The Loneliest Elephant. It is available for early viewing on Earth Day — April 22 — on Paramount+. It officially premieres on the Smithsonian Channel on May 19.
