Everything’s looking good for Melbourne duo Good Morning, who’ve struck a new record deal ahead of the unveiling of new music and a run of live shows.
The melodic indie pairing of Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons sign to Champaign, Illinois-based Polyvinyl Records on a global basis (excluding Australia and New Zealand), Billboard can exclusively confirm. At Polyvinyl, Good Morning join an eclectic artist stable alongside the likes of Alvvays, STRFKR, Julia Jacklin, Kero Kero Bonito and others.
Of the signing, Polyvinyl label director Seth Hubbard enthuses, “I’ve been a fan of the band for years, but when I heard their newest collection of songs I was blown away. We are so excited for Polyvinyl to help share this music with the world.”
The first release through the new pact is “Mollyduker” and “Keep It,” their first taste of new music since 2019’s melancholy LP Basketball Breakups.
Locally, the band continues to release music via their own imprint Good Morning Music Company Worldwide via Virgin Music Australia.
The two-track is due out Wednesday (April 28), and will be supported with tour dates across their home state Victoria, starting June 11 at The Curtin Bandroom in their hometown.
“Mollyduker” and “Keep It” were written collaboratively during a two-week-long stint in quarantine, when the act returned last year from their 2020 U.S. tour cut short by the pandemic.
A full-length set from Polyvinyl will follow later in 2021.
