BTS’ Army is so excited about the group’s upcoming second English-language single “Butter” that more than 13 million of them have been watching a video of a digital pat melting for an hour. “Butter” is due out on May 21, so for now the best we can do is check out the mouth-watering clip that went up earlier this week, which at press time had racked up more than 13.3 million views.
Spoiler alert: at the end of the 60-minute visual — which features the sound of sizzling butter melting and popping in what sounds like a diner kitchen as the golden pat slowly fades into the yellow background — the heart-shaped pat slides off the screen and the release date pops up. While there is not actual music in the clip, a series of emoji-like images slide through over the course of the oleaginous trip, including musical notes, sunglasses, hearts and the sun.
In case you missed it, the band also tweeted out the full promo schedule for their “Butter” blitz, which reveals the release dates for a series of concept clips, photos, video teaser and the official visual. The song, described in a press release as “a dance pop track brimming with the smooth yet charismatic charm of BTS,” is slated to drop at midnight ET on May 21.
“Butter” is the follow-up to the K-pop septet’s 2020 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash “Dynamite.”
