Netflix is bringing Jojo Moyes’ popular romance novel to life in The Last Letter From Your Lover.
The first trailer for the film dropped on Tuesday (May 4), starring Shailene Woodley, Felicity Jones, Callum Turner, Joe Alwyn and Nabhaan Rizwan.
In the film, Jones plays Ellie a journalist in modern times who accidentally unveils a number of secret letters from the 1960s detailing an “illicit love affair” between Jennifer (Woodley) and Anthony (Turner), even though Jennifer is married to Alwyn’s character Laurence.
The trailer also features a first listen of an original song by Haim, in which the sibling trio is heard singing, “We are, we are, we are forever / We are, we are, we are tonight.”
Woodley previously told Entertainment Weekly that she was “inclined to say yes” to starring in the film, as she wanted to work with director Augustine Frizzell (Euphoria).”Then I read the script and it was really beautifully executed — I don’t feel like there’s a lot of movies that are told this way and are also executed in a way that’s thoroughly entertaining and intelligent,” she explained.
The Last Letter From Your Lover is out on Netflix on July 23. In the meantime, watch the trailer below, and order the book the film is based on here.
