Yesterday (May 6th), the preliminary hearing for Corey Walker, one of the men accused of killing rapper Pop Smoke, was held. According to The New York Daily News, Detective Christian Carrasco was the first person to take the stand and detailed what happened the night Pop Smoke was show and killed in Los Angeles back in February 2020.
Carrasco testified that the rapper was in the shower at his rented Air Bnb when masked gunmen made their way into the home through a second story balcony. He said that one of the suspects allegedly put a gun to the forehead of a woman that was in the home that night.
The woman spoke to the cops hours after the fatal shooting. The detective recalled the woman's testimony, saying, “She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and then she heard a loud pop and heard Mr. Jackson fall to the ground. Two other individuals began to kick him.”
He continued, “Mr. Jackson gets up and runs downstairs. She hears two more pops. She follows Mr. Jackson, sees him on the ground, and screams for Michael (Durodola) to call 911.”
The woman also told police that she believed the suspects took Pop Smoke’s jewelry before leaving the Airbnb.
Pop Smoke was rushed to the hospital for a major surgery but he died from his wounds.
Meanwhile, another detective took the stand to testify and said that vehicle that was caught on surveillance footage dropping off the suspects was traced to Corey Walker — who had been stopped in the car for an unrelated incident before the fatal shooting.
