The CMA Board of Directors made a decision that Morgan Wallen will not be eligible for solo awards this year. This includes any nomination in the individual artist categories, such as Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year.
He will, however, be eligible for categories that honor artistic works, such as Single, Song, Album, Musical Event, and Video of the Year. The reasoning is that these categories include other credited collaborators, and they should not be limited on receiving nominations, due to Morgan’s actions.
Morgan came under fire in February when a video surfaced of him using the N-word. Afterwards, he was disqualified from the Academy of Country Music Awards.
After a few months of silence, Morgan was spotted last week performing at Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville.
In other Morgan Wallen news, although he wasn't allowed to participate in Sunday night's (May 23) Billboard Music Awards, he won three catagories… Top Country Artist, Top Country Male, and Top Country Album.
TL;DR:
- Morgan Wallen will not be eligible for solo CMA awards.
- He will be eligible for collaboration awards.
