Roddy Ricch captures his first top 10 debut as a lead act on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “Late At Night” starts at No. 6 on the chart dated June 19.
“Night” opens with 16 million U.S. streams in the week ending June 10, according to MRC Data, helped by the simultaneous release of its audio distribution and official music video on June 4. The sum prompts a No. 4 debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart and marks his eighth top 10 on that list. The track also sold 1,200 downloads in the same period.
The new single is also making inroads at rhythmic and R&B/hip-hop radio. “Night” starts at No. 23 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart and secures Roddy Ricch’s highest debut on the radio ranking among his 12 entries to date. That strong initial momentum resumes from his status as the format’s No. 1 artist for 2020 on the strength of three No. 1s in the year — “The Box,” “Ballin’,” with Mustard, and a featured spot on DaBaby’s “Rockstar.”
On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, “Night” rises 34-32 in its second week on the list. It registered 4.1 million in audience format impressions in the week ending June 13. Similar to the Rhythmic Airplay debut, the No. 34 start is Roddy Ricch’s personal best to date, reflecting the in-demand status and appetite for new material as the rapper also topped the year-end rankings as 2020’s top R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart artist.
Elsewhere, “Night” bows at No. 4 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and at No. 20 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
While Roddy Ricch has maintained a constant profile with collaborations and guest spots on songs by artists such as 42 Dugg (“4 Da Gang”) and Pop Smoke (“The Woo”), “Night” marks the rapper’s first solo release since the close of his last album cycle, for his LP, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. That album debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart after its December 2019 release and spawned hit singles in “High Fashion” and “The Box,” the latter of which reigned on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for 14 weeks and led the Hot 100 for 11 frames.
