Seether's Shaun Morgan has named his top three commandments on rock. In an interview with Australia's Heavy magazine, Morgan said, “The first commandment would be you've gotta be true to yourself. And by that I mean don't follow a trend. Don't try to be part of a movement. Just write music that makes you happy; write music for music's sake. So, the first one is just stay true to yourself.”
He continued, “The second one is write from the heart lyrically, 'cause it's easy to write lyrics that allude to this party-type lifestyle. I guess there's a time and place for that, so, really, whatever. If that's what you wanna do lyrically, then go back to rule one.”
He added, “I think the third could be have fun, but also don't take your stuff too seriously. There's so many people that take themselves so seriously, and they drink their own Kool-Aid, so to speak, and they allow themselves to believe the hype and then they become different people.”
