As BTS’ “Butter” returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the smash holds atop Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart (dated July 31).
The 20-position Songs of the Summer heat index tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot 100 from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 12 through Sept. 11). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed.
“Butter” keeps atop the Songs of the Summer running tally over a stationary top five. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U”; Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” featuring DaBaby; Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA; and Justin Bieber’s “Peaches,” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, repeat at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively.
One title enters the Songs of the Summer chart: Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits,” at No. 19. The track began at its No. 5 high on the Hot 100 dated July 10 and has spent each of its subsequent three weeks on the chart at No. 6.
Sheeran’s’ “Shape of You” wrapped as the No. 5 season-ending hit on the 2017 Songs of the Summer chart and “I Don’t Care,” with Bieber, placed at No. 4 for 2019.
