Teyana Taylor opened up about having surgery to remove lumps from her breasts during the most recent episode of We Got Love: Teyana and Iman.
The 30-year-old singer/model/actress revealed how she underwent emergency surgery in Miami after finding lumps in her breasts, which was documented on Wednesday’s “A Family Emergency” episode of their E! reality series.
Taylor’s physician Dr. Altman performed a “complicated” biopsy procedure on her “dense” breast tissue and sent the samples out to pathology, and the results were fine. “I just want this to be the last time I go through this,” she said during the episode. “Cancer runs through my family, so it’s a scary thing both for me and [husband] Iman [Shumpert].”
The first thought the “Come Back to Me” singer had post-op was: “When will I be able to hold my babies again?” But the doctors told the mother of two — 5-year-old daughter Junie and 11-month-old daughter Rue — that she would have to wait at least six weeks to physically lift them up since the surgery was performed on her chest and under-arms. “I think that’s probably be the longest I’ve been away from them,” Taylor noted. “My number one priority is to hurry up and get back home, but I know I need to take care of what I need to take care of as well.”
But she was welcomed with open arms when the K.T.S.E. artist returned home in Atlanta, as Junie handed her mother a homemade card and a bouquet of flowers for a touching surprise upon arrival.
“I accept every single body scar, everything that comes with mommy-hood, but the changes — physically, mentally, emotionally, it’s crazy. As mommies, we really are super-women,” she reflected. “It’s been a rough year for me, but I feel like I, like, overcame it and I did a great job of balancing everything, trying to be mommy, trying to be wife, trying to be entrepreneur and everything else I have going on. I just want to enjoy this moment and try not to think of the negative.”
Last December, Taylor confirmed she would be retiring from her musical career. The R&B singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram that she feels “super under appreciated” as an artist after receiving “little to no real push from the ‘machine,’” and announced that she’s “retiring this chapter of my story.”
