It’s Knockouts time on The Voice, which means the contestants must bring their A-games, or go home.
Two Team Ariana singers brought their best-games on Monday night’s episode (Nov. 1).
Bella DeNapoli, a Long Island native, performed like there was no tomorrow, hitting a rearranged cover of Sia’s “Chandelier”. Her rendition earned enthusiastic “wows” from the judges.
Up next was Memphian Katherine Ann Mohler, singing Bell Biv DeVoe’s early ‘90s number “Poison,” not as a hip-hop song but as a power ballad.
Later, John Legend remarked that Mohler was “daring” for reinventing such a well-known song, but he wasn’t sure the risk paid off. “I love that you went and did it,” he added. But he would have sided with Bella on this one.
Mohler did something that was “such an artistic, cool move,” Kelly Clarkson noted. It got Clarkson’s vote, if she had one.
This is “the most equal knockout of the entire season,” Blake Shelton remarked. If he had to, he’d choose Katherine.
In the end, Ariana Grande had the tough decision to make. And she went with DeNapoli. “I had to go with Bella,” she later explained. “Her knockout was really gorgeous vocally. But also so emotionally vulnerable and moving.”
DeNapoli now moves on to the live rounds.
