We Are Messengers achieve their first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Christian Airplay chart as “Come What May” takes over atop the list dated Jan. 29.
In the airplay tracking week ending Jan. 23, the song increased by 4% to 9.2 million audience impressions, according to MRC Data.
The foursome formed in 2015 in Monaghan, Ireland, and is now based in Nashville. It comprises Raul Aguilar (bass), Drew Kerxton (drums), Darren Mulligan (lead vocals) and Kyle Williams (vocals, guitar).
Mulligan wrote the song with Jeff Pardo.
“The life of a songwriter is a bit peculiar,” Mulligan muses. “You and your friends craft a song in isolation from the deepest place in your heart. Later, you get to share the song with others hoping that it resounds with their heart, as well. I’m humbled and grateful that ‘Come What May’ has reverberated with so many people. Especially in these uncertain times, it serves a reminder to all of us that the only power or control we have is to surrender to God’s infinite love and care for us.”
“Come What May” becomes the act’s first Christian Airplay chart-topper after 12 prior entries and seven previous top 10s. The band last visited the top 10 last March with the No. 8-peaking “Image of God.” The group first entered the tier in April 2016 with its No. 7-reaching debut entry “Everything Comes Alive.”
Meanwhile, “Come What May” follow-up “God We Are,” featuring Josh Baldwin, re-enters Christian Airplay at No.47, a new high, up 12% to 139,000 audience impressions.
