Red Hot Chili Peppers extend their record for the most No. 1s in the history of Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, as “Black Summer” crowns the April 2-dated survey.
The song becomes the Anthony Kiedis-fronted act’s 14th leader on the list.
The four-piece first led with “Give It Away” in 1991 and had most recently reigned with “Dark Necessities” in 2016.

Red Hot Chili Peppers also become just the second act, after Green Day, to have earned Alternative Airplay No. 1s in four distinct decades, each having ruled in the 1990s, 2000s, ’10s and ’20s.
Concurrently, “Black Summer” commands the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart for a seventh week, with 8.7 million audience impressions, up 7%, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data.
The song also spends a third week at its No. 2 high on Mainstream Rock Airplay and bullets at No. 4, after reaching No. 3, on Adult Alternative Airplay.
On Billboard‘s multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, “Black Summer” ranks at No. 18 after debuting at its No. 10 best (Feb. 19). In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 1.1 million official U.S. streams and sold 600 downloads in the March 18-24 tracking period. It also ranks at No. 16 on Hot Alternative Songs after hitting No. 9.
“Black Summer” is the lead single from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 12th studio album, Unlimited Love, due April 1.
