Universal Music Group’s works will be available to Audiomack users in the United Kingdom, Canada and across Africa after both parties struck licensing agreements.
With immediate effect, UMG licenses a “curated selection” of music for the streaming platform’s users in 16 African countries: Algeria, Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Announced Wednesday (June 22), UMG will make its full catalog offering available for Audiomack’s premium subscribers in those African territories.
Audiomack also expands its footprint on both sides of the Atlantic, by adding UMG content for the U.K. and Canada, expanding on a previously-struck licensing arrangement with UMG for the United States.
“Millions of listeners across Africa, the U.K., and Canada use Audiomack every day,” comments Dave Macli, Audiomack co-founder and CEO, in a statement. “Our expanded partnership with UMG helps artists in these regions better connect with their local fans and helps artists around the globe tap into a new audience of discovery-focused music fans.”
Launching in 2012, Audiomack found its niche in the competitive on-demand music streaming and audio discovery market as a platform that was initially indie-oriented and catered to a much younger audience.
Currently, the service reaches more than 20 million monthly users globally, according to a statement.
Working with the company, comments Frank Kacou, managing director, Universal Music Africa, “will enable our artists from across the continent to reach wider across both French-speaking Africa and beyond, as well as to build their audiences across Canada, the U.K. and U.S.
