Audiomack has named Jason Johnson senior vp of marketing and brand strategy, the company announced Thursday (Aug. 25).
In his new role, Johnson will spearhead the brand’s growth strategy across North America and continue expansion efforts throughout Africa while supporting the executive leadership team on all marketing, public relations, brand strategy and philanthropy initiatives.
“I’m humbled and proud to take this next step in my career with Audiomack,” Johnson said. “I’ve been fortunate to work alongside a leadership team that is committed to disrupting the music and tech industry in unprecedented ways. We plan to continue elevating the culture and investing the appropriate resources to bring artists and fans closer together than ever before.”
Johnson previously led Audiomack’s Africa team. Under his guidance, the streaming service says it became the top-ranked music streaming app on Apple’s iOS in Ghana, Tanzania, Senegal and Kenya, while in Nigeria, it claims Audiomack became the No. 1 iOS app overall.
Since joining Audiomack in 2018 as a senior marketing consultant, Johnson has helped propel the careers of emerging artists such as Rod Wave, EST Gee, Blxst, Pooh Shiesty, Omah Lay and Ayra Starr via the streamer’s #UPNOW artist development platform. He has also developed marketing initiatives to bolster the international reach and growth of Afrobeats leaders like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Fireboy DML. The platform says it now averages over 2.5 billion Afrobeats streams per month.
Audiomack co-founder and CMO David Ponte noted that Johnson “has two of the most valuable tools of a marketer and brand strategist: tireless work ethic and an adroit understanding of what really matters to artists and music fans in 2022.”
In addition to his new role, Johnson will also serve as president of Audiomack’s Social Action Committee, where he will oversee the organization’s philanthropic initiatives.
