Reports say that prosecutors want Tory Lanez to serve 13 years behind bars for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. According to legal affairs reporter Meghan Cuniff, a memorandum filed Tuesday (June 6th) says that Tory Lanez’s “campaign of misinformation” was aimed at humiliating and “re-traumatizing” Megan Thee Stallion.
The legal document continues, “Words have power and the pen is oftentimes mightier than the sword. In this case, Daystar Peterson used both. Not content to have hurt the victim by use of his sword (gun), he also used his pen. His online posts for nearly three years have re-traumatized the victim.”
The statement added, “His online reach is worldwide (millions of followers plus casual observers) and the defendant’s statements embolden his followers so that they too have been complicit in re-traumatizing the victim. He is responsible for the effect of his words and his actions.”
In addition, the memo stated Lanez’s three violations of court orders before trial, including his breach of a protective order at the 2021 Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. He joined fellow rapper DaBaby on stage, despite the fact that Megan had a protective order against him and was in close proximity.
Prosecutors also mentioned Tory Lanez’s “unprovoked attack” on singer August Alsina in Chicago last September, his recent claims that the evidence against him was falsified, and the fact that he “profited from his crimes” by making a “full-length album with several songs about the shooting.”
According to prosecutors, Lanez “not only lacks remorse, he is clearly incapable of accepting any responsibility for his own actions.”
They’ve asked Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford to sentence Lanez to six years for first-degree assault with a firearm, four years for the firearm aggravator, and three additional years for bodily harm. The sentences for the two firearm convictions would reportedly run concurrently.
Judge David Herriford is scheduled to sentence Tory Lanez next Tuesday (June 13th).
