Ed Sheeran took home his first Emmy over the weekend as his song for Ted Lasso, called “A Beautiful Game,” won Best Original Music & Lyrics. The singer missed the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony because he's on tour overseas, but delivered an acceptance speech on social media. “We won an Emmy last night,” Sheeran wrote. “I was not expecting to win at all, it was a real real surprise waking up to the news.” He added that it was “2 years ago this month” that he and Max Martin “wrote a song about love and football, and how it is always about the journey rather than the destination.” The song was featured in the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso. The actual Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast January 15th.
