Hoobastank’s 2004 smash hit single, “The Reason,” has just surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The funk rock band from Agoura Hills, California had a breakout success with “The Reason” back when it was released, with the track rocketing up to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart while topping the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The hit song was also nominated for both Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2005 Grammy Awards ceremony. “What an amazing moment,” Hoobastank’s guitarist Dan Estrin said in a statement. “Creating something with your childhood best friends and then watching it grow into an out of control wild fire has been absolutely surreal. None of us ever expected this, and at times it feels like a dream. Knowing how much ‘The Reason’ means to so many people in the world is an indescribable, proud, emotional feeling. Thank you world.” (Consequence of Sound)
