The three children of the late rock legend Robbie Robertson have filed a lawsuit against his widow, Janet Zuccarini, alleging she committed elder abuse against the former member of The Band. Robertson died in 2023, just a few months after a private marriage to Zuccarini, Robertson’s children allege that Zuccarini forced Robertson sign legal documents that he was not capable of understanding, due to lingering effects from a 2022 cancer-related surgery that were being treated with heavy painkillers.
“Robertson’s mental state was severely impaired,” states the attorney representing Robertson’s children. “These drugs he was taking, in the period of time when Zuccarini was arranging the secret wedding and having him sign oppressive documents, are known to have significant effects on cognition – including confusion, hallucinations, torpor, depression, memory loss, and dissociation.” Robertson’s heirs are asking the court to cancel any legal agreements he signed while he was mentally and medically impaired.
