Following the death of MC5 guitarist and co-founder Wayne Kramer four months ago, details have now emerged about a new album from the Detroit rock legends. A new full-length album from MC5 called Heavy Lifting is set to be released on October 18, which will be their first new record in 53 years. Heavy Lifting features Kramer on guitar and vocals, joined by a series of guest stars like Tom Morello, Slash, William DuVall, Vernon Reid, and the late MC5 drummer Dennis “Machine Gun” Thompson, who died on May 9. Kramer co-wrote 12 of the album’s 13 songs with Oakland musician Brad Brooks, including the record’s first single, “Boys Who Play With Matches,” which is produced by Bob Ezrin and features musical contributions from Morello. MC5 are set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later on this year. (Pitchfork)
