Let this be a lesson to all of you out there: when replying to the family text about your beloved New York Giants, just make sure everything is tucked in before you hit “send.” That’s the hard lesson Kevin Jonas learned recently when he hopped on a group text with brothers and Jonas Brothers bandmates Joe and Nick, and a few of their pals, to weigh in on the huge news that J.J. McCarthy was getting the start against the Houston Texans last weekend.
“I did something that ruined my entire day,” Kevin admitted on this week’s episode of the Hey Jonas! podcast about the mistake he made in the 15-year-and-running chat that also includes the original Jonas Brothers drummer, their buddy Carl from New York and their former tour photographer. With the whole crew excited about the McCarthy news, Kevin sent a pic to the group chat featuring an image of a giant TV with the announcement on it.
“I don’t even know how to start this … this is my trauma,” Kevin, wearing a hamburger costume for Halloween, lamented. “Kevin sends through a picture to the group chat,” Nick continued. “It’s a TV, and it’s got the announcement on it, and nobody thinks much of it.”
The chat continues for a while until Kevin “panic texts” the rest of the group “‘Guys delete the photo I’m sorry. Cuck my life. F–k. Delete the thread f–k.’” Joe, wearing a hot dog costume, said he was busy on the couch playing video games and Nick was getting a haircut, so they weren’t paying close attention.
Joe asked Nick what was going on and wondered if Kevin posted something he wasn’t supposed to. “Guys. Guys!” Kevin interjected. “D–k’s out for J.J. McCarthy. The photo has mirrors, and I didn’t clock it, and it was in our bathroom, and I took the photo as I’m getting into the shower. And sadly …”
“Sent it to the group chat,” Nick smirked contentedly. “You have a massive TV in your bathroom, but there’s mirrors surrounding the TV,” Joe added. “And you can only see … it’s like the greatest thing you didn’t know happened. There’s a big TV and right below it is a mirror and it’s only your d–k. It’s literally just your weiner. It’s funny for me to say, my costume, cuz I’m dressed as a weiner.”
Nick then did a slow, dramatic reading of each line of the text, with the collective laughter rising with each line. “I’m getting a t-shirt made with this one it, ‘Delete the thread f–k!’” Nick added.
As only brothers can, they had a good, long laugh about it and Kevin was a super sport. “I just need this to end,” he said, laughing through tears. Nick clarified that the funny part was not the photo, as Kevin jumped in to assure viewers and listeners that he has nothing to be ashamed of. “I appreciate that, because, guys, to be honest, I just came from the gym, the room is 62 degrees …”
No, the funny part, Nick tripled down, is the four texts, back-to-back that he deemed “poetry.”
Kevin said he threw his phone in the kitchen that morning and when his wife Danielle asked what was wrong, Joe interjected and screamed “‘I sent the guys my d–k!’” Kevin said Danielle replied, “‘Oh no!’”
For the record, Nick’s response to the pic and the plea to delete was, as you might imagine, “Go Giants.” And, the other guys were super sweet too, with one saying, “‘Well, we’re all grown up now … you’re all good buddy.’”
The brothers are still in the midst of their Burning Up Tour All Over Again, which will hit Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum on Nov. 1.
