It’s been a rocky festival season this year, and the trend continues with today’s announcement that The Big Climate Thing will be postponed to 2023.
Billed as a three-day concert event “for the people and the planet,” The Big Climate Thing was originally scheduled for a September 16-18 run at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York. In a statement posted to the festival’s official Instagram account today (Aug. 22), representatives wrote, “Collectively, we felt that if we couldn’t produce the event in a way that met the high standards for participation and impact that are the foundation of The Big Climate Thing, then it was the responsible choice to postpone until we can.”
“We are so grateful to have had this chance to form a vital community with you and look forward to a reimagined event in 2023,” concluded the statement. Fans who purchased tickets via phone or AXS online will be automatically issued refunds to their card of use in the next 30 days. Other fans will be able to acquire refunds at their original point of purchase.
In addition to live music, The Big Climate Thing promised “immersive on-site activations and curated content” with the intent to “work within popular culture to create awareness, accountability, and action around the issue of climate change.”
The Big Climate Thing boasted a lineup that included Haim, The Roots, Sheryl Crow, Courtney Barnett, Princess Nokia, Mykki Blanco, The War On Drugs, The Flaming Lips and Gary Clark Jr.
