The Killers complete their quickest trip to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Airplay chart, as “Boy” rules the Sept. 10-dated survey.
The song ascends to No. 1 in only its fourth week on the list. The band logged its previous fastest flight to the top with “Caution,” which led in its sixth week on the ranking in 2020.
“Boy” wraps the fastest trip to No. 1 on Alternative Airplay in 2022 and the quickest since Twenty One Pilots‘ “Shy Away” needed just three frames in April-May 2021.
The Killers now boast three Alternative Airplay No. 1s. Before “Boy,” “Caution” ended an almost 14-year wait after “When You Were Young” led in 2006. The band first appeared on the ranking in 2004, when “Somebody Told Me” peaked at No. 4, marking the act’s first of 13 top 10s.
Concurrently, “Boy” rises to No. 1 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 4.6 million audience impressions, up 10%, according to Luminate. The Killers claim their second No. 1 on the list, after “Caution” led for three weeks.
“Boy” also breaks into the top 10 of Adult Alternative Airplay, jumping 15-9. It’s the band’s seventh top 10 and first since “Quiet Town” reached No. 9 last October. Two of those songs hit No. 1: “Read My Mind” in 2007 and “The Man” in 2017.
“Boy” also places at No. 31 on the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, after reaching No. 17 upon its Aug. 20 debut. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 676,000 official U.S. streams and sold 500 downloads in the Aug. 19-25 tracking week.
The Killers last released an album, Pressure Machine, in August 2021. “Boy” is slated to appear on the band’s next studio set, tentatively scheduled for 2023.
