British singer-songwriter Celeste performed her and Daniel Pemberton’s best original song nominee “Hear My Voice” at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday night (Apr. 25).
Wearing a sparkling black gown with pink ruffled cuffs, Celeste began the song a cappella at center stage from the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, before Pemberton, in a blue dinner jacket and bowtie joined in on piano. Eventually, the song performance swelled with drums and a string section, as the rousing ballad swelled to a stirring climax.
“Voice” is nominated from its appearance in the Aaron Sorkin-written/directed The Trial of the Chicago 7, a retelling of the controversial trial of the ’60s American protest group. The movie is nominated for six total awards at this year’s Oscars, including best picture and best original screenplay (for Sorkin).
